Toyota Motor Corporation on 8 April 2014 (15:00 Japan time) announced two international recalls that will also affect locally sold vehicles.
The recalls involve the seat fastener spring on previous generation Yaris models and a spiral cable connected to the driver’s airbag module in the RAV4, Hilux, Fortuner and Innova models. The seat spring on the older Yaris models will be inspected and replaced if necessary, ensuring that the seat remains firmly locked into place. For the RAV4, Hilux, Fortuner and Innova models the spiral cable will be replaced to prevent any possible wear that would lead to the airbag warning light illuminating.
In all instances Toyota South Africa is participating in the campaign as a pre-emptive measure and no incidents leading to accidents have been reported locally. Note that the required corrective measure will not result in costs to the owner and it will not impact on warranty or service plans.
