Overview
BA helps assist drivers who cannot press the brake pedal hard enough when braking
in an emergency situation by supporting the driver with additional braking force.
This allows for the generation of greater braking force and contributes to realising
excellent braking performance.
BA is designed to merely assist the driver, and cannot achieve braking performance
that is beyond the capability of the wheels. Therefore, it is important for the
driver to maintain a speed and distance that are appropriate to the road conditions.
Content of Safety Functions
Situation (Activation trigger)
When the speed and force pushed to the brake pedal is determined that the driver
is attempting an emergency stop
Function (System/Components)
Brake pedal stroke sensor + Brake ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and Brake actuator
Operation (Operation mechanism)
Increases the braking force applied by the driver pressing the pedal
Result (Mechanical phenomenon after activation)
Greater braking force than the driver has applied is generated
Benefits
When the braking force is lacking during an emergency situation, braking pressure
is increased to generate greater braking force. This raises the possibility of risk
avoidance.
